Meaning of the name

Wangerriburra is derived from Wangerri ‘Pretty-faced Wallaby’ with the clan/locality suffix ‘-burra’ attached. Wangerriburra means ‘Pretty-Faced Wallaby People’ and refers to the local Whiptail / Pretty-faced Wallaby (Macropus parryi).

Country

Wangerriburra country is on the Tamborine mountain range and within the Albert River valley. Their country extended west to the Birnam Range, south to the Macpherson Range, running north to the Cedar Creek area and bounded to the east by the Darlington range and Numinbah valley.
